Trafficking in drugs, small arms and light weapons

Illicit trafficking in drugs and small arms fuels organized crime, violence and instability, and threatens public health and long-term security. Addressing these challenges requires strong co-operation, robust legislation and sustained law enforcement capacity-building. The OSCE works with its participating States and Partners for Co-operation to build their resilience and reduce these transnational threats.

Our work

Our thematic and programmatic focus areas

The Department of Transnational Threats, with the support of OSCE field operations, helps the OSCE’s participating States align their national laws with international standards on drugs and small arms. Through awareness-raising campaigns, it engages governments, civil society and young people to highlight the dangers of illicit trafficking and promote preventive action. It also strengthens cross-border collaboration by working closely with partners organizations, such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Europol, Interpol, the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre and Central Asia Drug Action Programme.
